Responsibilities

  • Lead the provisioning, deploying, administering, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, upgrading, and patching of Linux-based server infrastructure resources and services.
  • Deploy Linux server hardening skills to reduce the surface of vulnerability, such as host-based firewall ACLs, removal of unnecessary protocols and services, strong patch management and secured remote access via ssh keys.
  • Document complex processes, procedures, system configurations and specifications.

  • Support infrastructure services such as DNS/DHCP, IPAM, RADIUS/LDAP, SNMP, system monitoring, system log monitoring and analysis.
  • Develop and maintain shell scripts and Ansible, Python, PHP, or C/C++ code.
  • Conduct research into technology problems and have direct interaction with technology vendors.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers.
  • Provide project planning, implementation and successful execution of projects including technical design, and detailed documentation.
  • Isolate and diagnose root causes of hardware and software issues and act on a plan of action for timely problem resolution.
  • Exhibit strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills with the capability to acquire, retain and leverage advanced technical competencies.
  • Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree + 6 years of direct work experience in architectural design and deployment of Linux-based solutions.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools
  • Experience with security analysis, virtualization, computer networking
  • Experience with system automation software, particularly Ansible and Red Hat Satellite
  • Experience with maintaining HPC systems.
  • Advanced experience with monitoring and metric systems
  • Experience with architecture, provisioning, and maintenance of Linux based Databases, application servers, and Web servers.
  • Understanding of OS vulnerabilities and patching, third party application vulnerabilities and patching
  • Advanced troubleshooting methodology and awareness of industry standards
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Advanced understanding of WAN (Wide Area Network) technologies
  • Understanding of highly available cloud service deployments
  • Understanding of software containerization
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Advanced understanding of Linux operating systems internals.
  • Proficiency in MS Office skills including Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, paired with excellent organizational capabilities and a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated strength in technical problem‑solving, supported by excellent interpersonal and customer‑relationship skills, with a proven ability to resolve conflicts and issues effectively.
