  • Essential Duties:
  • Daily Operations and Technical Support
  • Manage day-to-day operations of electrical and computer engineering instructional laboratories, including oversight of all activity, equipment readiness, and user support.
  • Supervise the safe and proper use of laboratory equipment, instrumentation, embedded systems, electronic test equipment, and related engineering technologies.
  • Serve as a technical resource for laboratory equipment, software, instrumentation, tools, and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair laboratory equipment, instrumentation, computers, embedded systems, and electronic devices; coordinate with vendors for service or repairs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, calibration activities, and readiness checks for laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Develop technical documentation, schematics, wiring diagrams, and laboratory resources to support instructional and project activities.
  • Perform calculations and provide technical guidance to support engineering projects, laboratory exercises, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Instructional and Student Support
  • Train, guide, and support students and student apprentices in the safe and effective use of laboratory equipment and systems.
  • Partner with faculty to support hands-on learning experiences, laboratory exercises, capstone projects, and course-related activities.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of student apprentices.
  • Assist students and faculty with the fabrication, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of engineering projects and prototypes.
  • Support projects involving analog and digital electronics, embedded systems, microcontrollers, sensors, automation, communications systems, PCB design, and related technologies.
  • Create training media, SOPs, and documentation for laboratory and equipment use.
  • Support student competitions, outreach activities, workshops, and special events related to engineering education and student engagement.
  • Safety and Compliance
  • Maintain a safe working environment that meets ASU, TPS, and FSE safety expectations.
  • Enforce safety practices, equipment standards, and proper operating procedures.
  • Maintain safety documentation including SDS, manuals, equipment records, and signage.
  • Coordinate safety and compliance matters with the TPS Manager of Infrastructure and Lab Operations and FSE Safety staff.
  • Promote safe laboratory practices among students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Equipment, Inventory, and Facilities Coordination
  • Procure supplies, electronic components, consumables, and replacement parts; work directly with vendors for product information and pricing.
  • Keep laboratories clean, organized, functional, and well stocked.
  • Maintain laboratory inventories, equipment records, and asset information.
  • Coordinate equipment installations and maintenance activities with vendors, Facilities, IT, and other support units as needed.
  • Work with TPS leadership and support units to support laboratory operations and equipment improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering applications and processes.
