The Impact of a Maintenance Engineer A proactive maintenance engineer driving refinery reliability, safety, and profitability by anticipating problems before they occur, eliminating recurring failures, and turning maintenance from a reactive cost into a strategic advantage. Taking actions to minimize downtime, extend asset life, and strengthen the partnership between operations, maintenance, and engineering Your Job Responsibilities: Drive asset improvement in areas of safety, environmental, reliability and process capacity Identify and develop recommendations for changes and projects to improve unit operation. Lead root cause analyses (RCA) for mechanical and process equipment failures. Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Own equipment reliability strategy for critical assets (pumps, exchangers, vessels, piping, compressors). Optimize spare parts inventory and maintenance planning processes. Coordinate with operations to schedule and execute maintenance activities. Support turnaround planning and project scope development. Track and improve reliability KPIs (MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance). Drive bad actor elimination and reliability improvement initiatives. Champion use of CMMS, data analytics, and digital reliability tools. Accountabilities: Improved equipment reliability (↑ MTBF, ↓ unplanned downtime). Increased proactive work (% PM/PdM vs reactive maintenance). Controlled maintenance cost per asset or per barrel. Reduction in repeat failures and recurrence of known issues. Compliance with safety, environmental, and mechanical integrity standards. Implementation and closure of reliability or cost improvement actions. Effective collaboration with operations, inspection, and project teams. Required Qualifications: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology/Reliability 5-10 years of refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial maintenance experience. Working knowledge of API 510/570/653, ASME codes, and reliability tools (RCM, FMEA, RCA). Proficiency in CMMS (SAP, Maximo, etc.) and maintenance planning systems. Experience using condition monitoring and predictive maintenance technologies.
