Mammography Technologist-PRN-Mobile Unit

Responsibilities

• Perform mammography and other breast imaging procedures on the Mobile Mammography Unit in accordance with physician orders and established departmental protocols.
• Provide weekend coverage to support mobile breast imaging services and community outreach initiatives.
• Travel with and operate within the Mobile Mammography Unit at designated service locations.
• Produce high-quality diagnostic images with appropriate resolution and penetration of the area of interest to support accurate interpretation.
• Assist in optimizing patient flow and operational efficiency within the mobile imaging environment.
• Provide compassionate patient care and education throughout the imaging process.
• Assist Radiologists with image-guided diagnostic and invasive breast procedures as needed.
• Perform and document equipment quality control (QC) testing according to departmental standards and report equipment malfunctions or performance variations to leadership, maintenance, or engineering personnel.
• Accurately record patient demographics, clinical history, procedure details, and imaging documentation.
• Maintain manual and electronic patient, departmental, and hospital records in accordance with organizational policies.
• Apply knowledge of radiation protection principles to minimize patient exposure while achieving optimal image quality.
• Adhere to universal precautions, infection prevention standards, and sterile technique practices.
• Perform and document patient assessments and medical histories related to imaging procedures.
• Provide practical instruction and support to radiology and ultrasound students rotating through the modality.
• Recognize patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiate appropriate emergency response and life support measures.
• Ensure compliance with all mobile imaging, regulatory, accreditation, and safety requirements.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental operations and patient care.
• Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of a two-year Radiologic Technology program approved by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) of the American Medical Association (AMA). Equivalent education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of program completion.
• Current certification and registration in Radiologic Technology through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Current Mammography certification through ARRT or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to work weekends and travel to designated mobile imaging locations.

• Prior experience in mammography or breast imaging in a hospital, outpatient, or mobile imaging setting.
• Experience assisting with image-guided breast procedures.
• Experience working in community outreach or mobile heal

The technologist is responsible for delivering exceptional patient care in a mobile healthcare environment while maintaining the same standards of imaging quality, safety, and regulatory compliance expected in a traditional clinical setting. The Mammography Technologist provides patient-centered care throughout the imaging process and demonstrates the clinical expertise necessary to recognize patient conditions requiring immediate intervention, initiating appropriate life support measures when necessary. This position plays a critical role in supporting breast health initiatives through community outreach, early detection efforts, and the delivery of high-quality mobile imaging services. The Mammography Technologist collaborates with radiologists, physicians, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to facilitate diagnostic and image-guided procedures while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and departmental protocols. The technologist is also responsible for supporting workflow efficiency, equipment quality assurance, and the education of students rotating through the department.
