IT Business Solutions Specialist (BMS Controller Programming)

About the role

This role bridges IT and operational technology (OT), focusing on designing, implementing, and optimizing smart building solutions that improve efficiency, reliability, and user experience.

Responsibilities

• Business Solutions & Systems Integration
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into effective IT and BMS solutions.
• Design, implement, and maintain integrated building automation systems aligned with business needs.
• Collaborate with stakeholders (facility management, engineering, IT teams) to deliver scalable solutions.
• Identify opportunities for digital transformation, automation, and energy optimization.
• BMS Controller Programming
• Develop, configure, and troubleshoot BMS controllers (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks).
• Program and commission controllers for HVAC, lighting, energy management, and other building systems.
• Perform system testing, validation, and optimization to ensure reliable performance.
• Upgrade and maintain firmware/software for controllers and related devices.
• System Integration & IT Support
• Integrate BMS systems with enterprise IT platforms (e.g., IoT platforms, cloud systems, analytics tools).
• Support network connectivity for BMS devices, including IP-based communication.
• Ensure cybersecurity compliance for OT systems in coordination with IT security teams.
• Provide technical troubleshooting and support for system issues.
• Project Delivery & Documentation
• Participate in end-to-end project lifecycle: requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Prepare technical documentation, system diagrams, and user manuals.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and company processes.
• Support vendor coordination and system commissioning activities.
• Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering , or related field.
• 3-7 years of experience in:
• IT business solutions or systems integration
• BMS/Building Automation systems
• Hands-on experience with BMS controller programming (e.g., Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls).
• Strong knowledge of protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and OPC.
• Familiarity with HVAC systems and building operations .
• Technical Skills
• Programming and configuration of automation controllers
• Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, IoT connectivity)
• SCADA/BMS platforms and dashboards
• Database and data analytics exposure (preferred)
• Basic scripting (Python, PowerShell, or similar is a plus)
• Understanding of cloud platforms (Azure/AWS IoT - advantageous)
• Soft Skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Project coordination and multitasking skills
• Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and reliability
• Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
• Experience with smart building / IoT solutions
• Knowledge of energy management systems (EMS)
• Certifications in BMS platforms or industrial automation
• Exposure to cybersecurity frameworks for OT environments
