Job Title Automation Maintenance Technician About This Role: Giant Tiger Wholesale is looking to hire an Automation Maintenance Technician for our fully automated 660,000 square foot distribution centre in Johnstown, ON! The Automation Maintenance Technician will repair and calibrate our automated and robotic systems, including Automated Adapters, Vertical Lifts, and a fleet of automated robotic vehicles. The Automation Maintenance Technician will become the system expert of automation, including all mechanical, PLC, electrical or electronic subsystems. You will also be responsible for system upkeep and operations of automated adapters used to interface with the structure.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that the safety commitments in compliance with OSHA and GT's processes and procedures are met daily.
- Perform inspections on systems associated with Automated Storage and Retrieval System of automated robotic vehicles and Automated Adapters/ Lifts.
- Process and monitor the flow of the automated storage and retrieval system, through means of the adapters, including manual inbound, automatic inbound, automatic outbound, to achieve maximum throughput and cases per hour.
- Support continuous operation by adjusting, calibrating, repairing, replacing or modifying system components.
- Troubleshoot automated robotic vehicle anomalies and stoppages using schematic and wiring diagrams as well as advanced test equipment.
- Effective communication of problems impacting production and suggested actions, including approximate time required for corrective and emergency maintenance to required team members.
- Responsible for cleanup of equipment and removal of replaced parts from work areas after repairs are completed.
- Monitor and utilize common radio etiquette while obtaining instructions from leadership and operational leads.
- Responsible for automated robotic vehicle recovery in the robotic storage and retrieval system including working in restrictive environments.
- Perform Cell Operator functions as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with mechanical automation systems or educational/training equivalent.
- Strong electro-mechanical skills.
- Show reliability and maintain satisfactory attendance.
- Ability to maintain required productivity/work expectations.
- Ability to multi-task and perform multiple job functions at once.
- Ability to work independently of supervisor while following procedures and manuals.
- Posses a high sense of urgency.
- Must be able to work in a dynamic environment and change course based on immediate business needs.
- Demonstrate troubleshooting skills and ability to follow electro-mechanical diagrams.
- Must be capable of occasional and/or continuous feeling, seeing, hearing, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, balancing, gripping, climbing, crawling, sitting, handling objects, and repetitive movement using both hands and feet.
- Frequent ability to safely and efficiently lift items weighing up to 50lbs and move items weighing up to 80lbs.
- Demonstrates commitment and ability to work safely. Must comply with all safety requirements and protocols, including without limitation Lock out tag out safety protocols and fall protection safety protocols.
- Where You'll Work:
- You will be required to wear proper PPE when appropriate (hard hat, cut resistant gloves and sleeves, steel toe boots, eyeglasses, ear protection, fall protection (e.g., safety harness)).
- There will be steep stairs to climb into the structure. You may be required to routinely walk up and down stairs to navigate the automation structure.
- You will regularly be near railings that are high off the ground.
- You will be routinely required to work at heights of up to 55 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches, where you may need to be able to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- When You'll Work :
- This role requires you to work rotating 12-hour shifts. A Sample shift schedule is as follows:
- Week 1 - 6:30am to 7:00pm - Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
- Week 2 - 6:30am to 7:00pm - Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday
- Week 3 - 6:30am to 7:00pm - Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
- Week 4 - 6:30am to 7:00pm - Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday
- Week 5 - 6:30pm to 7:00am - Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
- Week 6 - 6:30pm to 7:00am - Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday
