JOB DESCRIPTION Join SUNY Erie as a Mechatronics Instructor through the PRODiG+ CC program, a SUNY initiative advancing student success, workforce development, and faculty excellence. This role is ideal for industry professionals with strong hands-on technical experience who are ready to bring real-world knowledge into the classroom. No prior teaching experience is required. SUNY Erie is committed to investing in faculty success through structured onboarding, mentoring, and ongoing professional development to support long-term growth and retention. The Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth Plus Community College (PRODiG+ CC) program is an initiative supported by SUNY system aiming to: (1) Increase the number and share of excellent diverse community college faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion by hiring qualified candidates directly into tenure-track positions to support the community colleges' efforts to build an educated workforce in the state. (2) Strengthen the pipeline for retention and support of these candidate. Candidates hired into a PRODiG+ CC role will receive additional faculty mentorship and professional development funds to support their professional growth. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Faculty teach department courses and evaluate student performance pursuant to guidelines set by the department and the College. Faculty report to the Department Chair within the Academic Unit. Faculty are responsible for preparing lessons and student learning activities. Faculty must maintain accurate records on students and submit pertinent data to the department and/or the College. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: - Ability to effectively communicate one-on-one, in small groups, and in classroom situations - Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of students - Capability to teach a wide range of related subjects - Effective problem-solving skills - Ability to work a combination of days/evening/weekend schedules - Remains current with subject matter and instructional methodology - Plans and teaches courses that fulfill the current curriculum goals and objectives - Communicates progress in the course to students in a timely manner - Provides classroom and laboratory instruction in industrial maintenance: particularly in robotics and instrumentation, mechanics, fluid power, electricity, and other assigned courses KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Good knowledge of field of specialization; knowledge of or experience in implementing a variety of teaching strategies; awareness of the value of technology as a tool for teaching; experience with computerized student record management; ability to develop educational programs; ability to teach effectively at the college level; initiative and resourcefulness; industrious and dependable; ability to get along well with others; effective communication skills; experience teaching a diverse student body; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
