Our Capcoal Open Cut Mine has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Officer to join the team on a permanent basis, based in Middlemount, QLD. Working together with Environment team and Operations, this role will see you contribute to driving the environmental performance of the mine, maintain compliance to corporate and legislative requirements. Key responsibilities will include: Conduct routine monitoring of water, air quality, noise and biodiversity in accordance with site procedures and regulatory requirements. Collect, validate, and analyse environmental data to support internal and external reporting obligations. Assist in maintaining compliance with environmental legislation, permits, and company standards. Participate in inspections, audits, and incident investigations, contributing to the identification of risks and implementation of corrective actions. Contribute to environmental improvement projects and initiatives that enhance site sustainability performance. Support internal stakeholders and contractors to promote environmental awareness and best practices. Manage and oversee site waste management practices, pest control, firebreaks, planned burns, fencing, and weed control. Ensure compliance with relevant state and federal legislation. Liaise with Traditional Owner groups and assist with Cultural Heritage surveys. Ensure compliance with the Cultural Heritage Management Plan and protect sensitive areas, including the maintenance of GIS mapping databases for Cultural Heritage matters. Support the development and implementation of Environmental Management plans and systems to improve site environmental performance. Review and audit of the site environmental management systems (EMS) and associated processes to ISO 14001 standard. Produce timely and accurate reports and plans, including statutory documentation, as required. Support in the management of contractors and projects on-site related to the Environmental works. To be successful you will have the following: Tertiary qualifications in Environmental management, Environmental engineering, Environment science, civil engineering, or relevant environmental related experience. Strong communication skills - with the ability to work well in a team environment. Experience within an Environmental Team preferably within the Resources or Mining industry. Experience using ArcGIS or equivalent GIS software. Experience in CAD software such as Deswik or Autocad is desirable. Experience in understanding, interpreting and analysing relevant environmental data. Experience with the Microsoft Office suite (Intermediate excel skills, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) Full-time permanent position based at Capcoal Mine, Middlemount. Monday to Friday role, with flexible working arrangements available.
