About the role

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment. In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. For the CP-08, you must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CP-07 (GS-09) grade level that equipped you with the competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience at the CP-8 grade level is defined as follows: --Knowledge of emergency management and relationships between Federal and other government entities, private sector and their response mechanisms and authorities. --Knowledge of intelligence and threat support policies, procedures, operations, programs, and interrelationships with other national activities. --Knowledge of Federal procedures regarding receipt, handling, storage, and destruction of classified documents and materials. --Skill in the use of classified and unclassified systems, programs and databases for sharing information among Federal, state and local security, intelligence and law enforcement organizations. --Skill in consolidating seemingly unrelated facts, events, and the ability to reconcile conflicting data. For the CP-09, you must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CP-08 (GS-10) grade level that equipped you with the competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the CP-09 grade level, possession of the above specialized experience at the CP-08 grade level is required in addition to the following: --Knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System. --Comprehensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration and Transportation Security Administration regulations pertaining to aviation security procedures and restrictions that apply to flight operations in the National Capital Region.
