- Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluates the patient's functional status by reviewing medical history, diagnosis and physician's prescription; observing and interviewing the patient/family/caregiver; and applying appropriate assessment procedures.
- Determines short and long-term goals with input of patients/families/caregiver; establishes plan of care based upon goals, evaluation results, and input of other team members.
- Implements appropriate therapeutic interventions, progressing treatment plans in areas of cognitive skill development, communication, oral motor function/dysphagia, perceptual function, orientation, psychosocial needs; teaches patient/family/caregiver activities to reinforce therapeutic interventions; recognizes patient distress signals which need follow-up.
- Documents (re)evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes and discharge summaries; records data required for statistics, productivity, billing, and performance improvement program activities as appropriate.
- Supervises technical staff and volunteers during procedures as appropriate. Provides appropriate staff training programs, as needed
- Notifies interdisciplinary team members of evaluation findings, patient progress and other pertinent information. Communicates regularly with the Rehab Coordinator to provide feedback on professional needs, patient status, interpersonal issues, etc
- Seeks input, allays fears, and elicits cooperation from the patient/family/caregiver
- Participates in discharge planning with the interdisciplinary team, recommending appropriate assistance and continuation of the rehabilitation process as needed.
- Participates in performance improvement program, collecting data and suggesting areas for improvement. Identifies the need to improve upon or order additional therapeutic equipment and supplies.

Under general supervision, delivers speech/language/pathology services through evaluation of patient needs, goal determination and development of treatment plans in accordance with the Maryland Speech/Language Practice Act. Assists with the overall operation of Rehab Services on the Unit. Education: Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from accredited college or university. Licensures/Certifications: - Certification of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association and a State of Maryland License in Speech-Language Pathology.
