Product Teams at GROPYUS own what they build, including underlying infrastructure, build pipelines, automated testing, release and rollout management, monitoring, and support. You will bring your experience in working with PLCs and/or other OT systems like e.g. robots, into the team. As a Software Engineer (PLC / OT), you will work with your team on evolving the rather traditional architecture of MES like systems integrating via OPC-UA with PLCs into a future-proof architecture built with Software Defined Manufacturing in mind. You should be looking forward to developing less PLC / OT code over time and building a solution that allows for full simulation of upcoming manufacturing orders. Furthermore, our teams are also responsible for operating and troubleshooting the software they have developed during working hours of the factory.
Responsibilities
- As a Software Engineer (f/m/d) on the Product Delivery team, you will be responsible for:
- Understanding and explaining the existing PLC / OT code base from our vendor to the rest of your team.
- Working together with your team and other teams in Product Delivery to evolve the current architecture into a truly Software Defined Manufacturing setup.
- Bringing an o perational mindset to monitor, maintain, and improve software uptime including reliable updates, latency, and efficiency
- Acting as a bridge between digital product delivery & physical logistics and manufacturing systems, ensuring both are aligned and integrated
- Helping define, monitor and evolve SLAs/SLOs as well as other important KPIs like e.g. OEE for critical systems
- What you bring
- You are an experienced software / automation engineer with experience in PLC or other OT technologies
- You are willing and excited to adopt modern software engineering approaches like code reviews, testing, CI/CD, etc.
- You have operated and supported large-scale software / OT systems
- You have worked in companies with strong operational cultures , ideally in logistics or manufacturing - understanding the commercial impact of system downtime
- You are proficient with most of the following technologies:
- PLC programming (TIA19 is a plus)
- Robot programming (KRL is a plus)
- OPC-UA
- MQTT is a plus
- Python / C++ / C# is a plus
- You are familiar with monitoring and alerting practices for production systems
- You have experience defining and working with SLAs/SLOs
- You are willing to travel to our manufacturing site in Richen whenever needed and within Germany and Austria for in-person team events
