A Brief Summary of This Position The Shipping Supervisor is a first-line Supervisor who is responsible for managing the shipping schedule and all associated functions for Brenham Operations, responsible for executing the bundling of manufactured/fabricated products and shipping to ensure efficient and timely transportation services. The incumbent will oversee the organization and control of the Shipping and Material Handling operations. Through subordinate staff this person is responsible for using the most cost-efficient means of product receipt and delivery to and from internal and external customers/suppliers while meeting deadlines. This is an on-site professional exemption salaried position Starting pay range (LG39): $76,800 - $95,900 Eligible for annual discretionary bonus Essential Functions: This position reports to the Shipping Manager and has 80+ direct reports Maintains authorized staffing levels. When vacancies occur, initiates appropriate documents to the Shipping Manager and the HR Generalist to get positions filled through internal postings and/or outside hiring. Interviews candidates and, within prescribed guidelines, and select candidates recommended for each position. Develops and maintains relationships with transportation providers/carriers Ensuring quality inspections of products/services produced Provides operational leadership for the site's distribution operations to meet/exceed all customer fulfillment requirements and cost objectives Assists with investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints Training /cross-training of employees in new operations and methods Manages overall employee performance while ensuring a safe work area, appropriate staffing levels, and documenting appropriate corrective action Assist employee set goals and objectives as well as assist staff with work progress Monitor and complete staff performance reviews Implement procedures to maximize operating efficiency and reduce potential injuries Lead, facilitate and promote teams to meet the challenge of continuous improvement Attend professional development courses Help identify employee training needs Important Details about the Role This position must maintain an overall acceptable level of performance in meeting the department's goals and objectives and attain this with a suitable level of employee relations and within the guidelines of the company. The employee must possess technical and human relations skills necessary to train and motivate workers. Ensure that standard methods are used. Recommend changes in layout, processes or methods to improve operations and lower costs Ensure accurate and timely reporting of assigned personnel's time and production counts Report discrepancies in specifications, methods, engineering data, standards, etc. to the corresponding authority Develop positive relationships with assigned employees to create pride in operations, housekeeping, safety and other accomplishments. Take action to keep equipment and work area clean. Promote a participative productivity climate and encourage assigned employees to submit suggestions for improvement on operations. Implement worthwhile ideas and keep employees informed of status. Keep managers advised of employee requests, complaints, and suggestions and provide prompt feedback" to employees. Be ultimately responsible for the implantation of shop safety practices Work with HR to keep job descriptions up-to-date and accurate as the job changes in scope and content Determine staffing requirements, interview applicants and on-board new hires Ensure that monthly safety and department meetings are held and participate in Lean related activities Promote cell and team development. Ensure that training is provided to appointed team members and leaders. Provide mechanisms to track/chart productivity goals and exercise guidance in productivity improvement Remain cognizant of the ever-changing environmental regulations and assure each cell is within compliance.
