About the role
Macmillan Education South Africa is seeking an organised, proactive and detail-oriented Editorial Programme Co-ordinator to join our TVET Publishing team on a two-year fixed-term contract. Responsibilities
- Co-ordinate editorial and production schedules to ensure project, submission, print and marketing deadlines are achieved.
- Monitor project progress and communicate timelines effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
- Prepare titles for submission and resubmission, ensuring compliance with Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) requirements.
- Liaise with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure projects progress according to schedule.
- Prepare and verify artwork briefs and captions.
- Source, brief and manage editors, proofreaders, over-writers, permissions researchers and other suppliers, including negotiating supplier fees.
- Quality-check manuscripts for educational quality, curriculum alignment, language level and overall suitability.
- Manage proofs, collate editorial corrections, maintain version control and prepare final files for marketing and commercial print.
- Contribute to editorial templates, briefing documents, style guides and complete all associated administrative activities accurately and on time.
- Experience, Skills & Qualifications
- Essential
- 3-5 years' experience in an editorial project co-ordination role, preferably within a curriculum-driven education or training publishing environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Science (BSc), Publishing, Education or a related field.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and project co-ordination skills with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines.
- Experience briefing and managing editors, proofreaders and other external suppliers.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working with technical publishing content, including mathematics, formulas, science and engineering material.

- Teaching qualification.
- Experience using MathType.
- Familiarity with digital publishing workflows and digital media.
- Knowledge of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) curriculum.
