Responsibilities

  • Build and sustain trusting relationships with children, youth and caregivers.

  • Able to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good writing and documentation skills.
  • Belief in the strengths, potential and development of children, youth and families.

Young people are developing their identity,i ndependence and aspirations. Parents are learning how to support their children in new ways. Sometimes communication becomes difficult. Sometimes misunderstandings grow. Sometimes families simply need someone to walk alongside them. The Family Development Mentor exists to strengthen these relationships. Through home visits, family engagement activities and regular support, Family Development Mentors help parents and young people better understand one another, communicate more openly and work towards shared goals.
