USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app The Marine Operations Technician supports the safe operation, maintenance, and mission readiness of a sea-going teaching and research vessel. Working closely with the Captain and senior crew, this position serves as an active member of the vessel crew, assisting with navigation support, line handling, watch-standing, small boat operations, and the safe execution of research and educational activities at sea. The position offers a developmental pathway toward qualification as a relief captain, with increasing responsibility for vessel operations, crew leadership, and voyage planning. Duties/Responsibilities: 30% Assist with navigation support, line handling, watch standing, small boat operations. 30% Inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of vessel mechanical systems, with particular emphasis on the vessel's twin Cummins QSB 6.7 propulsion engines, 21 kW Onan generator, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and associated support equipment. 30% Assist in planning maintenance activities, managing spare parts inventor, coordinating repairs, and ensuring overall reliability of the vessel systems. 10% Assist with the safe execution of research and educational activities. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Candidates should possess strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work safely and effectively in a dynamic marine environment.
