Mechanical Technician

Requirements

• Trade or postsecondary education related to engines (such as a diploma or degree in Mechanical, automated, marine, or comparable engineering
• Two years of experience in the relevant sector is preferred.
• It is very desirable to have prior experience with offshore or marine engine systems, including winches, hydraulics, piping, and instrumentation.
• It is advantageous to have experience repairing engines and compressors.
• Diesel engines (Yanmar, Lister, Kubota, Deutz, HATZ): replacing injectors, high-pressure fuel systems, and blocks and heads
• Honda gasoline engines: replacing injectors, high-pressure fuel systems, and blocks and heads

Additional Information

Examine and test engines to identify problems (visual checks, power checks, scan-tool diagnostics, listening for unusual noise, etc.). Identify issues with the fuel, ignition, cooling, lubrication, exhaust, air intake, and engine mounting/suspension systems. For a thorough examination and measurement, disassemble engines or their parts (cylinder head, pistons, crankshaft, timing system). Reassemble and calibrate the engine in accordance with manuals and specifications after repairing or replacing worn-out and defective parts. Carry out routine maintenance, such as tune-ups, belt changes, valve clearance adjustments, oil and filter changes, and spark plug replacements. After repair, run the engine (idle and load tests), assess performance, and adjust for efficient operation and appropriate fuel usage.
