About the role

Join one of the 24 Institutes and Centers within the NIH that provides professional Nursing. In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse (Research Specialist), GS-0610, you must have: Have a graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools; AND Passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN); AND A current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional Qualification Requirements: In addition to the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse (Research Specialist), GS-0610, you must meet the Additional Qualification Requirement listed below for each grade level: GS-11: Completion of a Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree, from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; OR You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing specialized knowledge on research protocols in a clinical research environment; utilizing advanced critical nursing skills to coordinate care for individuals participating in a clinical trials research program; providing ongoing education and counseling to patient and family on protocol participation; and interpreting clinical test results. GS-12: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing specialized nursing care in a clinical research environment; implementing program outreach and patient recruitment initiatives for research programs; recruiting and screening new patients and assessing their eligibility for clinical trials; providing clinical care for cancer patients and managing clinical protocols within a research program (e.g., monitoring treatment responses and coordinating laboratory testing and imaging studies); providing patient and family counseling, health education, and serving as a patient advocate. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
