SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS: The Quality Assurance Foreperson is responsible for analytical and microbiological evaluations of all raw, pasteurized, and final products. All work must comply with USDA, FDA, AOAC, GFSI, GMP, and safety regulations, as well as company policies. Forepersons will perform moderately complex testing with general supervision, exercises independent judgment in routine matters, and supports training of entry-level staff. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Operate laboratory testing equipment and independently perform a broad range of analytical and microbiological tests. - Perform daily quality checks and audits under close supervision. - Accurately complete worksheets and logs, either electronic or paper. - Assist in the preparation of solutions, media, and sample compositing for third-party testing. - Follow all safety, GMP, and laboratory protocols. - Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory work area. - Conduct quality audits with minimal supervision; identify, troubleshoot, and resolve routine technical issues. - Prepare and review certificates of analysis; ensure timely reporting of results. - Assist with calibrations and maintenance of laboratory equipment. - Provide guidance and training to Technician staff. - Actively participate in incident investigations, out-of-specification product reviews, and environmental monitoring programs. - Contribute to efficiency and improvement efforts. - Perform the necessary re-checks for analytical and microbiological testing. - Responsible for inventory and ordering of all necessary laboratory supplies. - Keep electronic scorch report updated appropriately. - Entry of daily random raw data. - Review HACCP System and Food Quality Plan documentation as needed. - Reviews and enters data from various outside laboratories and releases product as appropriate. - Follow all safety, work, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) rules. - May participate as members of the Food Safety Team and Food Quality Team. - Report immediately to supervision any damage, irregular activity, or unsafe conditions concerning the equipment. - Aid in execution of plant environmental monitoring program. - Support a company culture of continuous improvement by participating in efficiency and improvement efforts. - Perform other duties as assigned by management. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: - Must work in a safe, efficient manner and follow all safety procedures including the use of safety equipment. - Must have the ability to troubleshoot small problems and be able to discern when issues may require input from levels of authority within the corporation. - Must be willing to ask for assistance when the process is unclear. - Leadership, team development, coaching, and/or teaching experience. - Advanced computational skills and advanced math reasoning required. - Must be able to operate the equipment effectively after the appropriate break-in period. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: - Bachelor of Science Degree preferred in Dairy Science, Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry, or related field or comparable experience in dairy laboratory testing in five (5) out of the last ten (10) years. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: - Must be able to acquire a Certified Sampler license by the state regulatory agency. - Must be able to be licensed as Certified Industry Supervisor in accordance with the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (current edition) and state regulatory agency.
