SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The State Affairs and Member Advocacy Specialist supports AAFP's chapter advocacy efforts at the state level by developing and maintaining high-quality, actionable resources that enable chapter advocates to effectively engage in the legislative process. The role centers on researching and analyzing state legislation; and translating research into usable materials such as testimony, policy briefs, talking points, and backgrounders for chapters and advocates. In addition, the Specialist supports strategic advocacy efforts by identifying emerging policy issues, contributing to policy recommendations, and equipping internal teams and external partners with timely, easy-to-use tools to advance organizational priorities. The position also collaborates across teams and coalitions to ensure resources are aligned, relevant, and impactful in supporting coordinated state advocacy campaigns. This position reports to the Sr. Manager, State Affairs and Member Advocacy SPECIFIC ASPECTS INCLUDE: Develop advocacy resources: Create testimony, talking points, policy briefs, and backgrounders to support state chapters and advocates. Track and analyze legislation: Monitor priority state bills and regulations and translate insights into actionable, user-friendly materials. Produce legislative intelligence: Prepare regular reports and updates on emerging state policy trends and high-impact issues. Support chapter engagement: Equip state chapters with timely tools and host issue-specific briefings (e.g., "hot issues" calls) to inform advocacy strategy. Coordinate coalition and policy input: Participate in advocacy coalitions and contribute research and recommendations to inform organizational policy positions. Other duties as required.
