- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of electrical fuel, drive, engine, brake and related gasoline and diesel equipment and the techniques of their repair.
- Knowledge of the tools and equipment used to repair a variety of automotive and other mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of the practices and methods of automotive equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of the tools and materials required in automotive equipment maintenance.
- Ability to repair, replace and adjust the above systems.
- Ability to read and understand service manuals, parts catalogs, schematics and written work rules.
- Ability to road test equipment.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records.

- Background Check
- Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
- Probation
- All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-months probation.
- Eligibility
- Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
- Education Accreditation

Work of this class involves no lead or supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class may work shift work including weekend hours and are subject to callback. Work is performed in an automotive repair shop where unpleasant odors, dirty and greasy shop conditions are regularly encountered. Work requires strenuous physical exertion including lifting, bending, crawling and periods of prolonged standing.
