Safety Officer

Responsibilities

• Review and revise the Safety Management System to drive continual improvement and compliance.
• Establish, maintain, and update Safe Work Procedures and Risk Assessments for contractors and suppliers using a 5x5 risk matrix.
• Conduct safety training aligned with Safe Work Procedures and Risk Assessments to enhance workforce safety awareness.
• Ensure comprehensive risk assessments for all work activities are conducted, reviewed, and updated with actionable recommendations.
• Organize and lead monthly WSH Committee Meetings and prepare safety reports including safety indices to track performance.
• Enforce house rules among all stakeholders and take corrective actions for non-compliance to maintain a safe work environment.
• Collaborate closely with project teams to identify and eliminate security, safety, health, and environmental hazards.
• Develop, review, and improve Workplace Safety and Health procedures, measures, and policies in compliance with statutory requirements.
• Ensure legal compliance with all statutory safety and environmental regulations and oversee timely submission of mandatory documents.
• Monitor and enhance the company's BizSafe certification, safety management system, safety manual, and client safety procedures.
• Conduct investigations into WSH infringements and industrial accidents, recommending remedial actions to prevent recurrence.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of corrective actions implemented to address safety issues.
• Manage all incident reporting and investigations to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
• Facilitate and conduct internal audits to ensure ongoing compliance with BizSafe standards.
• Lead emergency response efforts, manage project safety personnel, and oversee site WSH matters for the company and subcontractors.
• Supervise and provide operational guidance to security personnel to maintain site safety and security.
• Train and guide the Site Emergency Response Team (SERT) and organize emergency drills to ensure preparedness.
• Oversee the management and maintenance of the company's fire alarm and protection systems.
• Regularly audit equipment, machinery, and assets to ensure they are in safe working condition and equipped with necessary safety protections.
• Assess and analyze risks associated with new or second-hand equipment and machinery purchases, providing safety recommendations.
• Implement safety campaigns to promote and embed a strong safety culture across the organization.
• Liaise with MOM, NEA, PUB, and other relevant authorities on all WSH matters to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Perform any other duties as assigned to support workplace safety and health objectives.
• Required competencies and certifications
• MOM registered Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Officer
• MOM registered Fire Safety Manager
• Preferred competencies and qualifications
• Minimum 2 years of relevant working experience in occupational health and safety or related fields
• Minimum second-class honours degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Engineering, or a relevant discipline
