Job Description Summary Organization's Summary Statement: The Department of Computer Science is top-ranked for research and teaching, with its undergraduate computer science program ranked 9th among public universities by U.S. News & World Report. The undergraduate program currently educates over 4,000 diverse students from around the world. The graduate program ranks 16th in the nation (9th among public institutions), with over 400 graduate students enrolled. Our faculty have been recognized with memberships in the National Academy of Engineering, fellowships in professional scientific organizations including ACM and IEEE, NSF Faculty Early Career Development awards and Sloan Fellowships. Position Summary: The Special Events Coordinator will be responsible for the planning and implementation of dozens of annual and ad hoc events hosted by the Department of Computer Science. As a member of the External Relations team, this position has primary responsibility for high-profile events including, but not limited to, Career Fairs, Research Day, Grad Visit Day, Graduation Reception, High School Programming Contest and Maryland Day. The Special Events Coordinator follows a customer-focused approach in assuming leadership or providing support, as appropriate, for Department events and other events in the Brendan Iribe Center. The Special Events Coordinator collaborates with other staff, faculty, or students in the Department and the University in a flexible manner depending on the nature of each event. Additional responsibilities include scheduling event space for the Iribe Center and external relations events on Google calendars, and other duties as assigned. This position is also responsible for giving tours of the Iribe Center to individuals or groups who may be interested in holding events in the building. This position will need to effectively manage relationships with campus colleagues, student leaders, volunteers, corporate partners, and external vendors. Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours as needed by the position. Physical Demands: Work takes place in both an office environment and in on-campus buildings. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time performing general office functions with periods of standing for event setup, registration, and event supervision. Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs, push and reach with arms. Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 lbs. and arrange furniture for events. Will be required to attend evening or weekend events and ability to travel to on and off campus event locations. Licenses/ Certifications: N/A
