Requirements

• Previous experience in an ophthalmology office.
• Completion of an approved program for Ophthalmology Assistants (COA, COT, COMT)
• BCLS certification preferred
• Understanding of the operations of a medical practice preferred. Strong orientation towards the provisions of high quality, cost effective and comprehensive medical care
• Ability to use effective organizational and time management skills to set priorities and respond quickly to urgent/emergent situations
• Strong communication--both oral, written and presentation skills to convey information in a clear and concise manner to persons of varied age groups, customers and/or groups
• Ability to create, maintain and support a high functioning team; establish and foster cooperative working relationships with staff and management; and function effectively as part of that team
• Demonstrates behavior that is courteous, caring, respectful, and compassionate at all times
• Demonstrates ability to listen and respond in a non-judgmental manner, with clear expectations

• Knowledge of ultrasound, visual field, OCT, a-scan (such as IOL master), fundus camera, slit lamp and all other relevant office equipment. Basic knowledge of ocular and systemic diseases
• Computer and typing skills necessary to effectively and efficiently utilize the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
• Knowledge of basic eye care and hygienic methods and practices involving the treatment of the eye and diagnosis of ocular disease
• Knowledge of medical terminology. People skills needed to have consistently positive patient interactions
• Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively
• Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation
• Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing
• Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance
• Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, management and peers
• Position may require rotating to other VMG locations from time to time when necessary
