About the role

The Staff Assistant is in the office of the Architect of the Capitol and is a key role which directly supports the Architect and Deputy Architect of the Capitol. This position will help establish and maintain the continuity for the Office of the Architect (OA), manage the daily administrative actions, and coordinate assigned projects. The Staff Assistant will serve as the trusted and confidential advisor that will take initiative to improve processes and procedures with little or no guidance. You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. It is available for your review on the OPM web site at OPM qualification standards Specialized experience: Is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Candidates for the GS-12 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as the following: (1) Providing high-quality administrative support to senior executives within a fast-paced team environment with changing priorities; (2) Researching, compiling and analyzing information to generate technical and management reports on a variety of topics; (3) Developing written communication products tailored to a variety of audiences; (4) Managing ongoing projects and related activities; and (5) Performing high-volume calendar management, travel scheduling, booking and organizing events. Candidates for the GS-13 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as the following: (1) Providing high-quality administrative support to senior executives within a fast-paced team environment with changing priorities; (2) Researching, compiling and analyzing information to generate technical and management reports on a variety of topics; (3) Developing written communication products tailored to a variety of audiences; (4) Implementing and managing multiple or ongoing projects and directing related resources and activities; and (5) Performing high-volume calendar management, travel scheduling, booking and organizing events.
