Responsibilities

  • To provide and manage emergency medical care across the school for students, staff and visitors.
  • To work as an informed, proactive, effective and cohesive member of the community with the health and safety of all the students and staff being paramount.

  • To keep continuously updated on medical best practice recording and evaluating training completed.
  • To liaise with International School Nurses across Singapore, supporting, facilitating and sharing of professional development.
  • To provide annual training and advice for teachers and other staff on specific health needs e.g. diabetes management, allergies, epilepsy, asthma and other medical conditions as required.
  • To review and document the first-aid qualifications of teachers and other staff members, planning and coordinating first aid courses for staff as required.
  • To advise parents on immunisation programmes and advises on outbreaks of communicable diseases.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of health education programmes including timetabled Personal and Social Education (PSE) classes and first-aid courses.
  • Management of the Health Centre and Overseeing the Medical Provision.
  • To adhere to the Singapore Nursing Board Code of Professional Conduct. Demonstrate professional conduct, preserve clients rights including confidentiality and promote mutual respect amongst colleagues.
  • Assess and treat all accidents, injuries and illness within the scope of her professional practice that occur during school hours and refer students to the appropriate medical facility for emergency treatment/further treatment that may be necessary.
  • Record visits to the Health Centre in the student's records as well as first aid administration and any treatment provided communicated to the parents in writing or by telephone if necessary.
  • To act as an advocate, providing supportive care for students who require mental health support; liaising with families, internal multidisciplinary team alongside external agencies with the child or young person as a primary focus.
