As a member of General Motors Research Labs, the Vehicle Controls group offers exciting opportunities for motivated researchers with outstanding capabilities to conduct research in applied AI for developing cutting edge, world changing technologies for GM's future vehicles. We are seeking for a highly motivated and talented Researcher to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Pioneer the development of advanced nano optics and display media technology for automotive systems, including projection display, HUD, OLED, AMLCD, microLED, and flexible displays.
- Facilitate technology transfer via active participation in inter-organizational teams.
- Contribute to the GM R&D through internal and external publication.
- Apply business training and technical depth and innovation acumen to survey and select potential partners in flat optics.
- Apply formal project management training with rigor to develop and execute project plans to coordinate a team effort in the development of high value designs and prototypes.
- Interact with internal customers, vendors and external research organizations to refine understanding of requirements and identify innovation opportunities.
- Create testable prototypes of these solutions and document your research findings.
- Use advanced optical modeling toolsets, devise unique high value solutions.
- Self-directed creation of novel ideas that are aligned with technology development roadmap.
- Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Master's degree in engineering or a physical Science, with a solid background in optics
- Keen software skills
- What Can Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- PhD degree in Engineering or Physical Science
- Optical modeling acumen and facility with standard optical modeling software packages
- Experience with optical system design
- Experience with using deep learning and/or machine learning to solve optical problems
- Capability to build your own modeling code
- Understanding of and experience with digital holography, photonics crystals, structured media
- Experience with design and fabricating unique photonic devices
