Position Summary The Manager, Laboratory Operations will manage the Product Development Laboratory providing a productive and safe environment for research, cell banking, process and analytical work. The position will oversee the maintenance of the lab equipment performance, lab supplies ordering and inventory, laboratory information systems and maintenance of cell bank inventory. Essential Functions Support operations at the Torrey Pines site, partnering with the Facilities Manager, to assure that site and laboratory equipment is maintained and repaired in a timely manner. Manage the purchasing of materials and supplies for the laboratory by obtaining quotes, requisitioning or ordering items, and tracking, expediting and receiving shipments. Collaborate and communicate with requesting departments and manage vendor performance to ensure purchasing requirements are fulfilled. Manage consumables inventory. Manage the maintenance of the lab and equipment, including coordinating equipment preventative maintenance and repairs with Facilities and/or external vendors, supervising inspection, cleaning, calibration, qualifications, testing and repairing lab equipment. Create, edit and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), process improvements, and quality standards for laboratory operations and maintenance. Manage a team of direct reports engaged in supporting the operational activities of the site. Manage the day-to-day activities of the team to include the hiring and training of new team members, coaching employees and monitoring performance. Manage the shipping and documentation for sterility and bioburden testing internally or at contract laboratory. Act as Secondary EHS on-site contact including obtaining safety data sheets (SDS) for purchased chemicals and managing liquid and solid waste pickups and proper storage of chemical and biohazard waste. Perform ad-hoc and cross-functional duties and/or projects assigned to support business needs and provide developmental opportunities. Education & Experience Bachelor's Degree in a scientific discipline (biochemistry, microbiology, chemistry, or related) required. 7+ years of progressive experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry setting required. 2+ years of experience leading or supervising a small team engaged in laboratory support activities strongly preferred. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Expertise in managing lab supplies and maintaining inventory. Strong communication skills, both written and oral skills. Strong organizational skills, sufficient to succeed in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Strong technical knowledge and skill base in laboratory operations. Leadership skills and demonstrated ability to work in a productive and collaborative cross-functional manner. Working Environment / Physical Environment This position works onsite in Torrey Pines, CA. This position works in a laboratory environment. Regular work schedule is Monday - Friday, within standard business hours. Flexibility is available with manager approval. Occasionally lift/carry 10 lbs or less and/or push/pull 12 lbs. or less. Substantial computer use and indoor work. This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus and equity award. The annual base pay range for this position is below. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications, prior experience as well as geographic location. $118,500 (entry-level qualifications) to $130,000 (highly experienced) annually The application window is anticipated to close on 60 days from when it is posted or sooner if the position is filled or closed.
