This role focuses on developing highly sensitive and fast X-ray photodetectors using emerging semiconductor materials, contributing to breakthroughs that reduce radiation dose and improve detection capabilities across a range of applications. You will work within a supportive, innovative team, gaining access to world-class facilities while building a strong and independent research profile. Key responsibilities will include: Research: Establish and contribute to a high-quality research program in semiconductor physics and X-ray photodetectors, publish in leading journals, collaborate on multidisciplinary projects, and support competitive research funding applications. Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision and development of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, fostering an inclusive and high-performing research culture. Citizenship and Service: Actively participate in service, engagement, and collaborative activities, supporting team operations and building partnerships with industry, government, and the broader community. About You Completion or near completion of a PhD in physics, materials science, chemistry, or a closely related discipline Demonstrated experience or emerging expertise in semiconductor materials, photophysics, or optoelectronic devices Evidence of research outputs in respected, peer-reviewed journals Experience contributing to research funding applications or collaborative research projects Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to innovation and discovery Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and collaborative research environment Experience or interest in supervising and mentoring students Demonstrated commitment to service, engagement, and fostering positive research culture About UQ As part of the UQ community, you will have the opportunity to work alongside the brightest minds, who have joined us from all over the world, and within an environment where interdisciplinary collaborations are encouraged.
