Senior Underwriter - Engineering

Responsibilities

• Underwrite engineering risks across project and operational phases, including CECRs and renewable energy risks, in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authority limits
• Analyse new business and renewal submissions, assess risk exposures, and determine referral requirements
• Develop pricing strategies using actuarial models, rating tools, and market data to ensure profitability
• Manage underwriting acceptance, monitoring, and control for the Engineering portfolio in line with HDI Global mandates
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Home Office, Risk Engineering, and Claims teams to enhance underwriting decisions and strategies
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and (re)insureds to support new business generation and portfolio retention
• Support the development and implementation of marketing strategies for Engineering lines of business
• Identify new business opportunities and contribute to product development to meet customer needs
• Monitor portfolio performance, including risk exposures, profitability, and market trends, and recommend corrective actions where necessary
• Prepare regular and ad hoc underwriting and portfolio reports for management review
• Maintain accurate underwriting documentation, policy administration, and electronic filing systems in accordance with company standards
• Participate in underwriting meetings, industry events, and stakeholder engagements as required
• Provide coaching, training, and technical guidance to junior underwriters
• Ensure compliance with internal guidelines, underwriting frameworks, and regulatory requirements

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in any discipline, preferably in Engineering or a related field
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in Engineering or specialty lines underwriting
• Possesses or is working towards a recognised insurance qualification (e.g. ACII, AAII, ANZIIF, SCI)
• Strong knowledge of engineering insurance risks, including project and operational exposures
• Demonstrated underwriting, analytical, and portfolio management capabilities
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and underwriting tools
