About This Opportunity We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Senior Technical Officer to apply their subject matter expertise and advanced knowledge of design, manufacturing and fabrication to the EAIT Faculty Innovation Group mechanical design-focused consulting engineering function. Join the EAIT Faculty Innovation Group as a Senior Technical Officer and play a key role in advancing research, innovation, and education. Leveraging your experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, and fabrication, you will provide specialist engineering consulting services that contribute to cutting-edge research projects, the development of innovative solutions, and exceptional learning experiences for undergraduate and postgraduate students. This is an opportunity to apply your technical capability across diverse and impactful projects while working alongside leading researchers, academics, and industry partners. Key responsibilities will include: Consult with clients to understand requirements and provide expert technical advice on services Seek and respond to client feedback to support continuous improvement in service quality Engage external technical help as required to support service delivery Contribute to the School's teaching program by supporting student build activities and course topics as required Assist in the development or design of new research products and technology Build new and/or improve existing research-focused engineering technologies, systems, prototypes, machines and/or processes Undertake drafting design, cost calculations, and feasibility studies to support research initiatives Design and coordinate testing procedures to identify problems and practical solutions Collaborate with colleagues to establish and maintain standards for procedures and component requirements Perform other duties as reasonably directed by the Engineering Manager (mechanical) Assist with developing a proactive safety culture and implement continuous improvement Support and/or lead the development of more junior research engineers, scientists, and technicians For further information, please click here to view the information booklet . The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. A degree in engineering, design, or a related discipline, or substantial industry experience as a trade-qualified professional, or an equivalent blend of education, training and real-world experience. Demonstrated experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, fabrication, or engineering research environments, with the ability to coordinate activities and deliver high-quality outcomes. Advanced proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), modelling, and engineering documentation. Strong knowledge of engineering principles, design-for-manufacture methodologies, and technical problem-solving approaches. Sound understanding of legislative and safety requirements relevant to engineering design, manufacturing processes, and the construction of technical equipment and structures, including machine and guarding safety. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage competing demands while maintaining flexibility in a dynamic environment. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and build effective working relationships with researchers, academics, students, and professional staff. The ability to work independently while contributing positively to multidisciplinary teams and collaborative projects. An interest in, or experience supporting, the teaching, training, and development of undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, and early-career staff will be highly regarded.
