About the role

At Pave, we're building the industry's leading compensation platform, combining the world's largest real-time compensation dataset with deep expertise in AI and machine learning. Our platform is perfecting the art and science of pay to give 8,500+ companies unparalleled confidence in every compensation decision. Top tier companies like OpenAI, McDonald's, Instacart, Atlassian, Synopsys, Stripe, Databricks, and Waymo use Pave, transforming every pay decision into a competitive advantage. $190+ billion in total compensation spend is managed in our workflows, and 70% of Forbes AI 50 use Pave to benchmark compensation. The future of pay is real-time & predictive, and we're making it happen right now. We've raised $160M in funding from leading investors like Andreessen Horowitz, Index Ventures, Y Combinator, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Craft Ventures. The Data Platform Team @ Pave The Data Platform team owns the data infrastructure that makes Pave work, connecting Pave's platform to the HRIS, EMS, ATS, and partner systems that power our customers' compensation workflows. Without reliable, high-quality integrations, none of Pave's products can deliver their full value. This is a high-leverage role at the core of Pave's platform strategy. This is also a rare opportunity to join as a founding engineer on the team - meaning you won't just be executing on a defined roadmap, but actively shaping how the platform is architected, what gets prioritized, and what engineering culture looks like from day one. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will set the technical direction for how Pave builds, scales, and operates its integrations infrastructure. You'll have a direct line from your architectural decisions to product capabilities and customer outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the existing integrations infrastructure and drive high-impact architectural changes that improve reliability, performance, and developer experience
  • Set the technical direction for how Pave builds and operates its connector and pipeline platform at scale
  • Design and build new partner integrations and establish patterns that make future integrations faster to deliver
  • Own data quality end-to-end, building validation, anomaly detection, and confidence signals that ensure customer data is accurate and up to date
  • Build and scale the normalization layer that transforms messy, inconsistent data from thousands of customers into Pave's canonical data model
  • Evaluate and apply AI to data normalization challenges, including automated field mapping, entity resolution, and data quality detection to improve data quality and reduce the manual effort of onboarding new customers
  • Build and improve observability tooling: monitoring, alerting, and debugging infrastructure that gives the team and customers confidence in pipeline health
  • Partner with product, go-to-market, and engineering leadership to shape the integrations roadmap and surface technical tradeoffs and investment needs
  • Mentor and uplevel the engineers around you, creating leverage through coaching and the standards you set

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience building and shipping production-grade software, with significant depth in integrations, data pipelines, or platform infrastructure
  • Demonstrated ability to assess an existing system, identify structural weaknesses, and deliver architectural improvements that have lasting impact
  • Deep understanding of integration patterns, API design, and the operational challenges of third-party data dependencies at enterprise scale
  • A track record of working across team boundaries and influencing technical direction without direct authority
  • Strong judgment in prioritization - able to sequence a large surface area of work and create as much value through what you simplify or kill as through what you ship
  • Execution oriented - equally comfortable defining the architecture and rolling up your sleeves to drive implementation
  • Compensation, It's What We Do.
  • Benefits @ Pave
  • At Pave, growth isn't a perk - it's the point. As you develop, your role expands, your responsibilities deepen, and your compensation reflects the impact you're making.
  • We offer a monthly stipend to cover:
  • Private Health Coverage: Comprehensive private healthcare to keep you and your wellbeing a priority - because great work starts with taking care of yourself.
  • Sports & Wellness: A monthly wellness stipend to fuel your active lifestyle - whether that's a MultiSport member
