About the role

A global technology company is looking for an experienced environmental professional to lead environmental due diligence and permitting for its APAC network infrastructure portfolio, with a focus on subsea and terrestrial fibre optic cable projects. Reporting directly to the Manager of the Environment & Water Team, this is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role. You will work with limited local support and will be expected to operate independently across multiple jurisdictions, engaging internal cross-functional teams and external regulatory agencies alike. Some early morning and late evening calls are required to connect with counterparts in Japan and North America.

Responsibilities

  • Permitting & Compliance
  • Lead environmental permitting and regulatory compliance for network investment and construction projects across APAC, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs).
  • Ensure adherence to relevant APAC Directives, UN Directives, and International Conventions.
  • Track and manage all environmental compliance obligations across permit conditions and planning approvals.
  • Identify and evaluate environmental permitting risks and regulatory changes affecting network installation projects.
  • Programme & Risk Management
  • Provide environmental risk management across the full project lifecycle, from initial due diligence through execution and operation.
  • Align environmental approvals with project delivery schedules.
  • Scope and review work from external consultants; provide direction on permitting strategy and environmental conditions.
  • Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Coordinate with internal teams including network investment, engineering, legal, policy, communications, and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS).
  • Engage external suppliers and regulatory agencies on permits and approvals.
  • Develop and communicate environmental obligations across design, construction, and operations teams.
  • Develop training materials and tools to build environmental awareness and compliance culture.

Requirements

  • Required
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, planning, or a related field, with 12+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Comprehensive hands-on experience in APAC Environmental Impact Assessments and pre-development environmental work.
  • Proven track record of communicating and collaborating effectively with global, cross-functional stakeholders across time zones and cultures.
  • Strong project and data management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working independently with limited local support in a fast-moving, high-growth environment.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
  • Preferred
  • Experience in environmental permitting for fibre optic and/or international subsea telecom projects.
  • Familiarity with marine and coastal ecosystems.
  • Experience managing environmental and regulatory permitting risk on joint investments involving multiple partners.
