Role Description Staff Electrical Engineer, Systems Integration / Form Energy, Inc.: Integrate power system equipment to transfer power from our batteries and the grid. Assemble high power circuitry, execute tests, and collaborate with 3rd party power conversion suppliers to develop our first multi-day storage product. Duties include: Select, commission, and operate high-voltage electrical equipment used for testing and validating power electronics solutions, such as high-voltage transformers, disconnecting devices, and Dielectric strength and isolation measurement devices; Specify and optimize best-in-class power converter solutions, such as inverters, transformers, and DC-DC converters, in collaboration with power conversion suppliers; responsible for integration activities to tailor supplier products to meet specific battery energy storage systems' (BESS) requirements; Design and develop high-voltage electrical control and power distribution panels, incorporating power conversion devices (such as power supplies and transformers), custom printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), and circuit protection components (e.g., high-voltage contractors, breakers, and fuses); Develop and execute comprehensive systems and component test plans to support engineering design, prototyping, and product validation. Establish product verification procedures for mass manufacturing, including Factory Acceptance Tests and Field Acceptance tests; Conduct root cause analysis, and identify system performance issues. Implement design solutions to improve the BESS' power collection topology; Develop simulation models for power conversion and circuit interruption devices in collaboration with subject matter experts; Contribute to the cross-functional engineering design of integrated BESS enclosures, including selecting and integrating cable harnesses, mechanical assemblies, and power distribution components. Up to 30% travel to Form Energy's WV plant to support manufacturing. Position Requirements A Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field followed by 5 years of post-baccalaureate experience in an electrical engineering-related occupation. Experience must include the following, which may have been gained concurrently: 1) 5 years of experience developing and integrating electrical systems, including power distribution systems and power conversion systems; 2) 5 years of experience using electrical schematic and CAD design software, including Altium, Zuken, or Siemens Capital; 3) 5 years of experience developing and executing test plans for design verification and validation using communication tools, including CAN communication tools, measurement devices, including DAQ, and Dielectric strength measurement devices; 4) 5 years of experience working with third-party vendors and multidisciplinary teams in a design, development, and manufacturing environment; 5) 3 years of experience working with high voltage (>400 V) electrical systems and power converters using safe work practices per NFPA 70e; 6) 3 years of experience designing electrical systems compliant with standards, including UL 508A or equivalent, NEC (National Electrical Code), and functional safety standards; 7) 2 years of experience working with simulation tools, including MATLAB/Simulink.
