Hiring above Step 2 must be approved by Board of County Commissioners) Position Closes: December 31, 2026 The Yakima County Civil Service Commission is now accepting applications to form a Register of eligible candidates for the position of LATERAL ENTRY DEPUTY SHERIFF with the Yakima County Sheriff's Department. Position will be open until filled and completed applications will be reviewed at the end of each month. This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies that occur within 90 days of the closing of this position. (This excludes Yakima County Sheriff's Office and Department of Corrections)

Responsibilities

  • To be considered a Lateral Deputy you must meet these minimum requirements:
  • Candidates that qualify, must score a minimum of 75% on the oral examination. Those applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference will receive 5 or 10 percent based on eligibility status.
  • All candidates are subject to physical agility/performance test, a background investigation, polygraph test, psychological examination and physical examination.
  • Applicants must complete and submit below paperwork PRIOR to be considered:
  • Required:
  • #1 Yakima County Application
  • #2 Resume - which can be attached to the application
  • #3 Proof of Citizenship (Copy of Birth Certificate / Naturalization Paperwork)
  • #4 Proof of High School Education or GED (copy of HS diploma or GED transcripts/or college transcripts or Degree).
  • #5 Copy of Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Certificate. If you live outside WA State, you must provide the Certificate from your State.

  • Preference Points must be submitted to Yakima County Human Resources prior to the Oral Board.
