Department Chairs' Secretary (part-time 17.5 hours/week) Brigham Young University seeks a dedicated, service-oriented individual to serve as the Department Chairs' Secretary in the Department of Physics & Astronomy. In harmony with BYU's mission to assist individuals in their quest for perfection and eternal life, this position supports both the academic and spiritual purposes of the university. The Department Chairs' Secretary contributes to an environment where rigorous scholarship, inspired teaching, and discipleship of Jesus Christ are integrated. By providing attentive administrative support, the successful candidate helps foster a department culture grounded in faith, integrity, respect, and a commitment to excellence in learning and service. What you'll do in this position: Manage and maintain the Department Chair's calendar, including scheduling appointments and meetings Oversee logistics for faculty educational development meetings Support the Associate Chair over students by reviewing TA applications and coordinate TA meeting schedules Help faculty committees with their individual missions in accordance with established procedures and policies Serve as a welcoming and Christlike representative for students, faculty, staff, and visitors contacting or visiting the department Coordinate all academic scheduling needs, including course materials, for two academic teaching areas Arrange and schedule rooms for other academic purposes Distribute official departmental communications in a professional and mission-consistent manner Provide administrative support that strengthens the department's capacity to advance inspired teaching, meaningful scholarship, mentoring, and service What qualifies you for this role: Required A firm commitment to the mission of BYU High school diploma or equivalent Previous administrative or office experience in any setting Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard office technology Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, reliability, and personal integrity Preferred Associate or bachelor's degree 1+ years of previous administrative or office experience in any setting Experience in a university or higher education setting Familiarity with BYU administrative systems and procedures Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive, faith-centered workplace culture What we offer in return: This position comes with fantastic benefits , including: Employee assistance program, available to the employee and all members of their household Access to the library Free on-campus parking Free UTA pass Discounts at the BYU Store and for many events at BYU Pay Grade: 47 Typical Starting Pay: $18.75-$23.75 The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate's job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors.
