About the role
As Teneo continues to grow its operations in Asia-Pacific, we are looking for a high calibre candidate to join our dynamic and professional Strategy and Communications team as a Senior Vice President based in the firm's Tokyo office. Teneo's Strategy and Communications team provides integrated communications counsel to business leaders and CEOs. You will support a wide range of activity to deliver the firm's core capabilities which include communications strategy, transaction communications, investor relations, media relations, crisis management, ESG advisory, market and industry research, and government relations. As a Senior Vice President, you will lead client accounts and be a primary contact for clients, responsible for delivering the highest quality service. You will drive activity across multiple account teams, provide regular insights and analysis, and support clients' reputational and strategic goals. Although this role is to primarily support our publicly listed corporate clients with financial communications and investor relations, we actively encourage our people to grow and develop their advisory skills across all our disciplines, including financial and M&A, digital, creative campaigning and corporate communications, leadership coaching, sustainability, strategy and research, issues and crisis management to solve complex business issues for our clients.
Responsibilities
- As a Senior Vice President with the Strategy and Communications team, your role will include:
- Providing investor and capital markets expertise - Guide clients in their engagement with buy and sell-side stakeholders, relevant stock exchange(s) and institutional, retail and governmental shareholders.
- Special situations - Support critical workstreams such as government affairs, crisis management, ESG, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), restructurings and other special situations.
- Account Management - Lead on account delivery, managing a team of experts to deliver high quality client servicing and acting as the main point person with the client. Actively coach and mentor junior team members.
- Client Management - Build and maintain strong relationships with the client, seeking growth opportunities where possible. Proactively manage the client and work to take advantage of opportunities/ resolve issues as needed.
- Leadership - Take responsibility for managing junior colleagues, supporting their performance reviews and career growth within the firm. Supporting the smooth running of client servicing operations.
- Furthermore, you will be expected to:
- Build strong relationships, fostering long-term partnerships and seeking organic growth opportunities through new business proposal development;
- Create advisory notes for client leadership, addressing media narratives, geopolitical risks, and reputational issues, while monitoring media coverage for clients and competitors;
- Provide support and insight to your client teams, proactively highlighting opportunities, and potential areas of concern;
- Build a strong network of effective relationships internally and externally;
- Proactively seek formal and informal learning and development opportunities to support your professional growth and contribute to the sharing of learnings across the wider team
Requirements
- 10-15 years of experience in corporate or financial communications, or alternatively in roles related to investor relations, corporate planning, compliance, investment banking, strategic advisory roles, with at least five years of working experience within a Japanese corporate.
- Strong track record of galvanizing high stakes relationships with both Japanese and international media as well as strong working knowledge of Japanese media
- Native fluency in Japanese and excellent Japanese writing and presentation skills are essential, as well as business-level fluency in English.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, including logical thinking, are essential.
- Ability to take personal responsibility for quality, deliver within deadlines, and perform under pressur
