About the role
This position is located at the Whiteriver Service Unit under Medical Services, Dental Department, in Whiteriver, Arizona. The purpose of this position is to serve as a clinical specialist in Endodontics to provide dental service to the designated population in accordance with the Indian Health Service policies. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021). BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. For the Endodontics specialty, experience, education, board certification, and/or training must clearly establish the applicant's status as a specialist. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provide diagnostic and therapeutic endodontic services, including use of patient history, radiographs, and clinical examination to evaluate pulpal and periapical conditions. Perform complex root canal treatments, retreatments, and surgical procedures for teeth affected by severe caries, periodontal disease, and trauma. Manage care for medically and mentally compromised patients, including geriatric populations and those with systemic disease. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams while independently managing complex specialty cases and ensuring compliance with infection control standards; OR Completed a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, carniofacial sciences, or related medical science. Medical RequirementsApplicants must be able to distinguish shades of color. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
