Skill in manipulating the controls for driving vehicles in all types of traffic and road conditions. Knowledge of the height, width, length, and weight of the vehicle in order to judge overhead and side clearances, the turning radius, braking distance, and distance to be maintained from other vehicles. Ability to read and understand road maps and to determine shortest and safest route. Knowledge of defensive driving techniques; judgment to select alternate routes to avoid potential problems. Knowledge of State and local safety rules and regulations. Knowledge and skill to load cargo properly onto vehicle. A valid driver's license is required.[AH2.1] Responsibility: Works under guidance of a supervisor or higher graded worker who provides general instruction on repetitive assignments and specific guidance, including written instructions on new operations or procedures. Observes safety procedures for various equipment. Responsible for safely transporting cargo to their destinations throughout the installation. Work is periodically spot-checked. Physical Effort: Stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Bends, stoops, and works in tiring and sometime uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. Exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, etc., and injury from falling stock. Must wear issued protective gear. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to danger of serious accidents
