General Summary The Critical Care Educator is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs to support the ongoing professional development of ICU staff. This role ensures that nurses, physicians, and other healthcare personnel maintain competency in critical care practices, comply with regulatory standards, and receive continuous training on best practices, new technologies, and evidence-based care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and deliver an orientation program for ICU staff, including nurses, PCAs, Scope Techs, and agency staff. Conduct ongoing training sessions on critical care protocols, clinical procedures, and new medical equipment. Organize simulation-based training and drills for critical care scenarios in collaboration with SIM Coordinator Assess and evaluate the clinical competencies of ICU staff through direct observation and skill validation. Identify areas for improvement and provide individualized coaching or training as needed. Assist in the development and implementation of protocols for trauma, stroke, cardiac, and sepsis care. Stay current on best practices and advancements in critical care to ensure the department remains up-to-date. Work closely with ICU leadership and other nursing educators on quality improvement and other hospital department workflows to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. Serve as a resource for staff, offering guidance on clinical challenges and evidence-based practices. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs. Education Registered Nurse (RN), Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Work Experience A minimum of 3-5 years of critical care nursing experience is required. Previous experience in nursing education, staff development, or clinical instruction preferred. Certification/License Current RN license in the State of Missouri or Compact Licensure. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS). American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) Mandt training course Mental/Physical Requirements Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities, standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching and nearly constant walking required. Working Conditions Frequent exposure to infectious disease and communicable disease via blood and other bodily fluids. May encounter hostile persons at times.
