Our Values Respect | Belonging | Accountability | Transparency Department Pulmonary Physicians Job Description Job Summary In collaboration with the Department of Medicine Chair, the Division chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine is responsible for oversight of a clinical practice team, and is responsible for oversight of site management team, and all the clinical (licensed) providers on staff. Essential Functions : Clinical Practice - Maintains an active primary care clinical practice in discipline. Leads by example in achieving own clinical practice productivity, quality goals and patient satisfaction (50%) Operations, Works with designated Directors of Service in oversight of operations of the clinical team, including productivity, quality of care, patient experience and staff / provider engagement. Monitors and aligns performance with Denver Health strategic pillars. Assists in recruiting providers. Supervises clinic practice manager, and all providers in the practice. (20%) Scholarly Activity, including Clinical Research and Educational activities. Time allocated above 10% will be based on ability to bring in external grant funding to cover this time. Works with Director of service to support relevant academic work at clinical site. (30%) Education : Doctorate Degree Required and Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate Program ABIM certification in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine Required Work Experience : 4-6 years of clinical experience with demonstrated leadership qualities and evidence of leading initiatives at the clinic or division level, or oversight of advanced practice providers. Required and Eligible for appointment as either Associate Professor of Medicine or Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Required Licenses : MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required and ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association Required and BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required and DEAREG-DEA Registration - DEA - Drug Enforcement Agency Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Oversee the administrative, professional, clinical, financial and educational activities of the Division. Communicate effectively with a wide variety staff and as well as administration. Possess critical thinking, analytical and teaching/coaching skills. Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff while providing quality medical care, able to analyze, interpret and act upon relevant clinical and financial data that pertain to the practice. Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications. Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills. Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems. Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Ability to accept and implement change. Demonstrated history of positive collegial relations with colleagues, support staff, providers, administrators and patients. Oversight of graduate medical education in the Division Support and maintain faculty development, recruitment and succession plans. Coordinate financial impact analysis of plans with administration. Encourage participation in research and conference attendance to enhance the reputation of the department. Ensure the department's compliance with the Medical Staff Bylaws and hospital policies. Coach, mentor, and develop others to build internal capabilities and the talent that facilitates success. Create, implement and maintain defined objectives for Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care services for clinical improvement, growth, and the expansion of services as needed.
