About the role

The Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease (CITIID) is a world-class research centre within the Department of Medicine. We are seeking an exceptional Operations Manager to lead and deliver the Institute's operational performance and long-term sustainability. This is a high-impact role with significant influence on the Institute's research environment and overall effectiveness. Based in the state-of-the-art Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre (JCBC) on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, this role is critical to ensuring a highly responsive, stable, and resilient professional services environment for a large, diverse community of researchers. Reporting to the Departmental Business & Operations Manager, you will be the senior operational lead and principal partner to the CITIID Director. This is an autonomous role where you will be accountable for translating high-level strategy into measurable operational outcomes while maintaining oversight of institutional risks. You will support workforce planning, optimise laboratory space across a complex footprint, and ensure the sustainability of the Institute's core facilities. You will lead key operational delivery and risk management, including financial models (e.g. equipment cost recovery) and compliance and reporting requirements (e.g. UKRPIF). You will operate in a multi-occupant building environment, representing CITIID within JCBC governance structures and working closely with partner institutes to ensure shared services (e.g. Estates, IT) operate effectively and efficiently. In addition, you will contribute to the wider Department of Medicine as a flexible senior operations lead, taking on delegated responsibility for key professional service areas (e.g. Communications, Postgraduate Administration) aligned to departmental priorities.
