Responsibilities
- Lead media optimization efforts that achieve titer, cell viability, and product quality targets throughout long-duration upstream processes.
- Oversee the Redmond media development team (1-2 director reports) and the Redmond media development laboratory.
- Drive technology development and continuous improvement strategic initiatives for cell culture media.
- Serve as a technical leader who represents the Media function on early- and late-stage cross-functional development teams to influence cross-functional project strategy and offer clear, data driven recommendations.
- Proactively identify cell culture-associated risks, gaps, and opportunities for platform and molecule-specific processes to drive alignment on solutions.
- Transfer novel media formulations to Manufacturing, support large-scale GMP media preparation protocols and deviations
- Oversee design, execution, and analysis of complex media screening DoE experiments to identify media additives that can improve cell viability, and product quality targets throughout long-duration upstream processes.
- Drive program and platform decisions based on experimental results and implement strategic updates based on emerging data and shifting priorities.
- Author novel media formulations and documentation, transfer to Manufacturing, and support large-scale GMP media preparation protocols and deviations.
Requirements
- A scientific mentor with experience managing and coaching 1-2 scientists.
- A subject matter expert with advanced knowledge of cell biology, cell culture media development, and related analytical equipment. Perfusion technology experience and late-stage process development/process characterization is preferred.
- A scientist with statistical design and analysis experience using tools such as JMP, R, or Python. Experience with training machine learning models for optimizing high dimensional data sets preferred.
- An excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing, able to share complex ideas in a simple, relatable way..
- Someone with experience in Microsoft applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Someone with availability to travel to Seattle for training or experimental support when needed and availability for minimal weekend experimental work as necessary.
- A self-starter who takes initiative to build technology development strategy, translates goals into clear experimental roadmaps, and prioritizes based on impact, risk, and timelines.
- Someone comfortable with ambiguity and thrives in complex situations where priorities and experimental direction may evolve based on data or program needs and adjusts plans quickly while maintaining scientific rigor
- An organized collaborator who excels in keeping track of multiple tasks and data.
- Someone with the ability to safely lift and handle materials up to 50 lbs as part of routine media preparation and laboratory operations, with or without reasonable accommodation.
