Job Description AECOM Buildings + Places is seeking a motivated and skilled Mechanical Engineer to help lead buildings projects, especially light industrial projects such as water/waste-water treatment facilities. This position can be based out of Burnaby , BC with opportunities for hybrid work. Some travel to nearby cities may be required. This position is for a newly created position. AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building's engineering disciplines, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to: Transit and Municipal, Commercial, Institutional projects, Justice, Education and Government. As a Mechanical Engineer , you will play a key role in leading the design, coordination, and delivery of mechanical systems for a variety of building and infrastructure projects across Canada. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, and project managers through all project phases, from concept design to construction and commissioning. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring technical excellence, code compliance, and constructability in both office-based design work and on-site field engineering during construction. Major Responsibilities: As a Mechanical Engineer, the selected candidate may be required to support design-phase tasks as well as construction-phase services and site-based responsibilities, including: Design HVAC systems, including duct and pipe sizing, equipment selection, equipment schedules, and coordination with vendors. Design complete plumbing systems, including potable water and drainage systems, pump sizing, and water heater selection. Design HVAC control systems and integrate with Building Management Systems (BMS) and SCADA platforms. Perform self-quality control reviews of mechanical design drawings, calculations, and specifications prior to submitting them to senior staff for review and verification. Conduct field investigations to assess existing site conditions for inclusion in construction documents. Work independently and make technical decisions based on building codes, industry standards, and company best practices. Coordinate design efforts with internal disciplines including architectural, electrical, structural, and civil teams. Attend and lead meetings with clients, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders to present technical content and address project requirements. Actively participate in multidisciplinary coordination sessions to ensure fully integrated design solutions. Respond to RFIs, review shop drawings and submittals, assess change requests. undefined Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, presentation ability, and client interface experience in both virtual and in-person settings. Perform regular site inspections and field reviews. Minimum Requirements In order to be considered for this position, candidates must meet the below requirement, at a very minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus four (4) years' experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities, such as Water/Waste-water treatment plants. Professional Engineer in British Columbia. Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
