Wildlife Biologist On-Call Southern and East-Central California (On-Call/Hourly)

Requirements

• A BA/BS in Wildlife Biology, Botany, Ecology, or related discipline
• 2+ years of environmental/consulting and biological field experience.
• Must have prior experience conducting construction field compliance monitoring on 2+ projects including 6+ months total field compliance monitoring experience
• Must have valid driver's license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicles Records (MVR) check
• Preferred Skills
• Avian nest monitoring and species identification skills with experience conducting nesting bird field surveys and avian habitat assessments on 3 or more projects with at least 2 of these projects located in the southwestern U.S.
• Experience leading all three phases of western burrowing owl protocol surveys on 3 or more projects including positive identification of individual owls in the wild
• Experience conducting native special status reptile or amphibian species surveys or monitoring on 3 or more projects with positive results and identification of target species
• Experience leading field surveys or trapping for small mammals on 3 or more California projects including possession of a CDFW scientific collecting permit
• Basic field observation documentation/data management experience
• Experience working in the environmental compliance and/or construction fields (i.e., biological or aquatic construction monitoring).
• Basic botanical knowledge of east-central and southern California with demonstrated participation in 5 or more field botanical rare plant surveys and habitat mapping assessments in California of which at least 3 of these projects in southern or east-central California
• Geographic Information System (GIS) software skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to respond timely to deployment requests (i.e., sometimes next day)
• Ability to travel to field sites in east-central and southern California and assist with field surveys and compliance monitoring in rugged, undeveloped terrain
• Ability and experience conducting work in active construction sites and communicating with construction foreman and equipment operators
• Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)

Wildlife Biologist On-Call Southern and East-Central California Job Description The On-Call Biologist will be responsible for a range of environmental consulting services, including preconstruction field surveys, construction compliance monitoring, avian species identification and nest surveys, supporting general and focused biological field surveys, assisting with writing and reviewing biological reports and supporting documents such as Biological Technical Reports, Biological Assessments, technical memos, FRED database forms, and providing as-needed field and office support to our local and regional Natural Resource team members.
