About the role

Axle Health builds AI scheduling and workforce management software to empower in-home healthcare providers to deliver exceptional, personalized care right where patients feel most comfortable-at home. Some of the biggest providers in the country use our software (like Cityblock Health and U Penn Health System) to improve the utilization of their field teams by 17%+, and automate the operational burden of scheduling and dispatching. Our platform includes proprietary logistics algorithms to optimize scheduling, a mobile app for field staff, an operations dashboard for office teams, engagement and booking tools for patients, and a wide range of integrations and external APIs for modular access. We're a team of top-tier engineers and operators, backed by $14m from top investors such as Y Combinator, Pear VC, and F-Prime, applying our intellect and logistics experience to upend how home healthcare is delivered. About You Axle Health is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented QA Engineer to join our growing team in Santa Monica. In this role, you'll be instrumental in ensuring the quality and reliability of our AI-powered healthcare logistics platform that's transforming how home healthcare providers deliver care. You'll work directly with our CTO, engineers, product managers, and customer teams to ensure we're delivering quality web, mobile and API products our customers depend on daily to coordinate thousands of in-home patient visits. This is a technical QA role going beyond user testing or testing visual design elements, and digging deeper into every layer of our applications' behavior. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment where testing isn't just about finding bugs, it's about enabling our customers to deliver exceptional care in patients' homes. You've worked within complex systems with rules heavy software in compliance driven industries (healthcare, finance, workforce management, etc.). You'll balance the need for speed in a high-growth startup with the rigor required in healthcare technology, and you'll play a key role in scaling our QA processes as we expand our platform's capabilities and customer base. This role reports directly to our CTO.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive QA strategy across our entire product offering including web and mobile applications, and interoperability (APIs and integrations with EMR and EHR systems)
  • Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for web applications, mobile apps (iOS and Android), APIs, and complex logistics algorithms that optimize scheduling and routing
  • Build and maintain automated test suites using modern frameworks to increase test coverage, reduce manual testing burden, and enable faster release cycles as we scale while applying manual testing practices as needed
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers throughout the development lifecycle (from requirements gathering through release) to identify edge cases, clarify specifications, and advocate for quality
  • Perform regression testing before each release to ensure new features don't break existing functionality
  • Document bugs with exceptional clarity and detail, track issues through resolution, and verify fixes across all affected areas of the platform
  • Participate in sprint planning, daily stand ups, working sessions, and retrospectives to provide QA perspective and foster a quality-first culture
  • Test real-time features like live clinician location tracking, route optimization, automated patient SMS reminders, and ETAs to ensure reliability under production conditions
  • Monitor production issues, assist with root cause analysis, and help prevent future occurrences through improved test coverage and process enhancements
  • Conduct thorough security and compliance testing to validate HIPAA requirements, including PHI data protection, access controls, audit logging, and encryption standards

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands on software QA experience testing web applications, mobile applications, and APIs, with demonstrated ability to create and execute comprehensive test strategies
  • Strong understanding of QA methodologies, testing types (functional, regression, integration, smoke, exploratory), and the software development lifecycle, particularly in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Experience in an early stage startup environment where you've built QA practices from 0 to 1, evolving the QA strategy and framework over time to meet the changing needs of the organization
  • Proven ability to write clear, detailed test cases and reproduce complex bugs with precision, including steps to reproduce, expected vs. actual results, and environmental details
  • Proficiency with issue tracking and test management tools (we use Linear) and comfort working in fast-paced, collaborative development environments
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to think critically about user wor
