About the Position: About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common which includes evaluating the extent of repairs for authorized approval, documenting equipment deficiencies for supervisor's safety reports, and inspecting equipment for operational functionality. I can determine the extent of repairs for equipment and utilize precision hand and power tools to accurately diagnose equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc. Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Troubleshooting Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Works on vehicles or equipment's that may be supported by jacks, stands, or hoists. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 20 lbs. (9.1 kg) and occasionally up to 45 lbs. (20.41 kg). Crewmember work requires frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, stretching and reaching, and the ability to concentrate for extended periods. Exerts considerable effort while operating switching, braking and coupling devices, while climbing aboard railcars or locomotive, while they are moving (especially in adverse weather conditions), while moving objects on railways, and while walking to perform tasks. Uses good hand-eye coordination and depth perception to position locomotive and railcars. May lift and carry items weighing up to 45 lbs. frequently while walking on rail ties, rail, ballast, uneven terrain etc. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works as a mechanic primarily inside lighted and heated shop but occasionally is subject to working in unheated and poorly lighted warehouses and outside in all weather conditions. Works on concrete floors, asphalt, uneven terrain and ballast. Work is dirty, greasy, and noisy. Subject to cuts, bruises, electrical shocks, burns, smashed fingers, broken bones, and diesel exhaust fumes. Works inside the locomotive cab and outside on the locomotive, railcars, roadbed, tracks and other outdoor areas.
