This role sits within the Learning & Skills Strategy & Operational Excellence (S&OE) - Learning Design Excellence team and reports to the Learning Design Excellence Manager. The role operates as an advanced subject matter expert , delivering through a combination of: Own expertise Influencing internal teams and external partners Providing guidance and informal leadership to other design practitioners Purpose Of the Role: The Learning Design Excellence Senior Advisor, is responsible for shaping and assuring high-quality learning design , driving adoption of global standards and enabling consistent, scalable, and effective digital learning experiences across bp . The role plays a key bridging function between strategy and execution , translating global design standards into practice, while improving quality, efficiency, and innovation across the learning content lifecycle. Key accountabilities 1. Learning design delivery and quality assurance Deliver sophisticated, high-impact digital and blended learning solutions aligned to global standards Assure quality of learning outputs across internal and external delivery Provide expert review and guidance on learning design approaches 2. Design standards adoption and continuous improvement Drive consistent application of design standards, templates, and governance frameworks Identify gaps and recommend improvements to standards and processes Support rollout and embedding of new ways of working 3. Vendor and partner collaboration Work closely with external vendors (e.g., Infopro) to guide design approaches and improve output quality Provide design direction and feedback to optimise delivery performance Support continuous improvement across the vendor ecosystem 4. AI and innovation in learning design Apply and scale use of AI-enabled tools and digital design innovations Find opportunities to improve speed, quality, and scalability of learning content Stay updated on AI tools and features; evaluate their relevance and impact to improve content design efficiency and quality. Pilot and embed innovative approaches into standard practice 5. Data, insights, and optimisation Use learner data and analytics to evaluate effectiveness and improve design outcomes Provide insights to advise content prioritisation and design decisions Chip in to improve transparency of design performance 6. Stakeholder engagement and influence Engage with stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective learning solutions Provide expert advice and challenge on learning design approaches Influence decision-making through insight and expertise 7. Capability building and informal leadership Provide mentorship and guidance to designers and partners Share guideline and build design capability across the ecosystem Act as a go-to SME for complex learning design challenges Key challenges Ensuring consistent quality across a multi-vendor, global delivery model Balancing standardisation with diverse business needs Embedding new design practices and AI-enabled approaches at pace Influencing partners without formal authority
