About the role

This is a strategic position sitting at the confluence of Licensing, Policy and Legal. As consumer trends, technology and data products evolve at a rapid pace, you will use your legal training to help future-proof the commercial structures that govern some of CME's most valuable proprietary data and analytics products. You will work within the Data and Analytics Licensing and Policy team to develop commercial constructs which maximize global market reach. You will be responsible for ensuring that our policies are not just legally sound, but commercially intuitive and easy for our clients to adopt. This is a great opportunity for a professional with a legal background who is looking for a role with more commercial influence. You enjoy the precision of legal writing but have a "business-first" mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Commercial Policy Construction: Devise and draft innovative commercial policies and licensing constructs for CME's proprietary data and analytics across Futures, Options, and Cash markets.
  • Critical Legal Thinking: Apply legal rigor to analyze the evolving regulatory landscape (SEC, CFTC, MiFID II) and determine how it impacts our data licensing models.
  • Market Intelligence: Conduct deep-dive reviews of new data consumption trends and competitor licensing frameworks to ensure CME remains at the forefront of industry standards and "best-in-class" policy design.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in Law (JD or equivalent)
  • Proficient data analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a talent for simplifying complex concepts.
  • Keen interest in IP protection of data/digital assets.
  • Demonstrable experience advising on License agreements
  • A basic understanding of the value of financial market data
  • The ability to translate legal risk into commercial, operational advice.
  • A hands‑on, pragmatic mindset suited to a growing business
  • Proven ability to influence internal stakeholders and solve complex problems.
  • #NIJobs
  • CME Group: Where Futures are Made
  • At CME Group, we embrace our employees' unique experiences and skills to ensure that everyone's perspectives are acknowledged and valued. As an equal-opportunity employer, we consider all potential employees without regard to any protected characteristic.

Additional Information

Data and Analytics Commercial & IP Strategy Analyst Focus: A legal professional who finds the commercial side of business more stimulating. Although responsible for the licensing and policies for some of CME's products, the successful candidate will also be adept to think critically for some of our larger forward-looking agreement structure and IP protective projects (like how to handle licensing of AI, data 'on-chain' etc).
