Responsibilities

  • -Think strategically and ensure deliverables are aligned with broader organization and create awareness of this direction with affected members/business functions.

  • -Provide leadership and direction to direct staff through the promotion of teamwork, empowerment, coaching and development; and manage team performance to ensure organizational objectives are met.
  • -Lead and/or participate on cross functional teams to represent EHS objectives related to the subject matter and to meet the team's overall strategic objectives and deliverables.
  • -Bachelor's Degree (EHS related, Science, Engineering) plus 10+ years of EHS related experience or Master's Degree (EHS related, Science, Engineering) plus 8-10 years of EHS related experience.
  • -Working experience implementing EHS regulations, conducting incident investigations, interacting with regulatory agencies and external organizations, and managing cross functional teams.
  • -Ability to plan against business targets, review and approve plans developed by other areas, and balance resources to achieve key business targets and strategic plan.
  • -Ability to define scope and magnitude of problem, provide rapid and detailed assessment, coordinate response, present short-and long-term options, and develop procedures to minimize likelihood of re-occurrence.
  • -Ability to actively listen, build/maintain effective working relationships with internal/external colleagues/resources and resolve conflict.
  • -Ability to create a motivating environment, make decisions, influence outcomes, and negotiate to achieve agreements while successfully representing EHS in a decision situation.
  • -Ability to successfully manage projects and programs.
  • Additional Skills/Preferences:
  • Experience presenting EHS KPIs to Senior leadership.
  • Experience in GMP manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with major capital projects and Greenfield sites.
  • Professional Certifications: e.g., Project management preferred.
  • Certification within EHS: CSP, CIH preferred.
  • EHS related experience in manufacturing/R&D environments is preferred.
  • EHS Professional certification is preferred but not required.

In this exciting new role, the Associate Director of EHS - Strategic Projects will collaborate with a cross functional team (Engineering, Operations, etc.) to ensure EHS is built into the design & engineering phase of our North Chicago site from design to manufacturing. Key Objectives/Deliverables: Act as the EHS liaison with Project stakeholders and Global EHS Partner with cross functional teams to develop, establish, and sustain EHS systems, processes, and programs. Ensure Regulatory Compliance, e.g. evaluating environmental Impacts Safety by Design - Anticipate and eliminate potential issues in design & engineering phases. Ensure innovation with Artificial Intelligence and new technologies have highest level safety considerations imbedded. Engage site resources in achieving an interdependent safety culture. Provide EHS technical support. Consistent implementation of AbbVie internal technical standards across all projects. Implement best practices from across AbbVie's EHS network. Introduce automated tools and technology for safety compliance, analysis, and evaluation Partner with construction company to ensure highest standard of Construction / contractor employee health & safety.
