Responsibilities

  • Supervises directors within the Mays Center: Experiential Learning, Civic Engagement, Workforce Development, and Career Services. Provides leadership for staff and student employees housed within the Mays Center.
  • Oversees goals and objectives, budget development, resource management, program assessment and evaluation, and policies and procedures.
  • Develops priorities and goals that support students' experiential learning and career readiness. Collaborates on the strategic plan for the division and the Mays Center, incorporating high-impact practices that help retain the undergraduate and graduate populations.
  • Advises the Vice President for Student Affairs on institutional and divisional priorities, including strategic planning, assessment, program evaluation, external funding opportunities, and experiential learning strategies.
  • Coordinates the collection of data and other information to effectively assess the Student Affairs Division and improve compliance reporting.
  • Works with Student Affairs departments to enhance initiatives in career readiness and workforce development, retention and graduation strategies, risk management, and other pertinent student issues.
  • Guides initiatives to enhance understanding of federal and state mandates and the accreditation process, and ensures alignment of divisions with the University's teaching, research, and service missions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible management experience, including some supervisory experience.
  • Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Doctorate/Terminal Degree or Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten (10) years of service learning, experiential learning, civic engagement, career development, workforce development or related experience with supervisory responsibility in higher education.
  • Demonstrated success in student success initiatives within a higher education setting.
  • Supervisory experience with professional staff and demonstrated success in managing multi-unit departments or programs.
  • Experience with grant writing or soliciting external funding for divisional priorities.
  • Experience with mainframe and PC based computer system.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Understanding of student success initiatives and departmental management. Able to solve complex problems and manage teams/committees with specific tasks such as institutional certifications and accreditations.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with accounting practices.

This position oversees and assesses programs and services-including Experiential Learning, Civic Engagement, Workforce Development, and Career Services-that empower students to succeed academically and personally, thereby driving higher retention and graduation rates. This role is responsible for strategic planning, assessment, management of federal and state mandates, and oversight of accreditation processes to ensure alignment with the University's teaching, research, and service missions. This work is carried out in close collaboration with internal university units, academic department chairs, college deans, and external partners, including government entities, nonprofit organizations, and the business community. Budgeted Compensation : $120,000/year / commensurate with experience.
